Breakout is a crypto-native prop firm that funds traders with up to $200,000 after a single-phase evaluation. Kraken bought the company in September 2025, which makes it the only prop firm owned by a major exchange. You pay one fee, hit a 9% to 12% profit target, and keep 80% to 90% of the profits on the funded account. Payouts are on demand in USDC.
That is the short answer. The rest of this Breakout prop firm review covers the plans, the pricing, the rules, and who should actually buy an evaluation.
What Is Breakout?
Breakout launched in 2023 and was built by four people who already had a name in crypto trading: TraderMayne, CryptoCred, Alex Miningham, and Abetrade. The pitch was simple. Most prop firms come from the forex world and treat crypto as an afterthought. Breakout was designed by crypto traders, for crypto traders.
The model works like any other funded-account programme. You buy an evaluation, prove you can hit a target without blowing through the loss limits, and then trade the firm’s capital instead of your own. If prop trading is new to you, read our what is a prop firm explainer first. It covers how funded accounts, drawdown, and profit splits work in general.
By the time of the Kraken deal, Breakout had issued more than 20,000 funded accounts. That number matters because it shows the firm had real traction before a big parent stepped in.
Breakout and Kraken
Kraken completed the acquisition on 1 September 2025. It was the first time a large crypto exchange bought a prop firm outright, and the reasoning from Kraken’s side was clear. Prop trading lets an exchange allocate capital based on proven skill rather than on how much money someone deposits.
For traders, the ownership change removes the biggest fear in this industry. Prop firms come and go, and plenty have stopped paying out overnight. A firm backed by Kraken’s balance sheet is a very different risk profile than an offshore outfit that started last quarter.
Breakout is also being folded into Kraken Pro over time. If you already trade on Kraken, our Kraken review explains the exchange side of the ecosystem. And if you do not have an account yet, you can sign up with Kraken here before you start the evaluation.
Breakout Evaluation Plans
Breakout runs three one-step plans. All of them share the same daily loss cap of 3%, no time limit, no minimum trading days, and no consistency rule. The difference is how much profit you need and how much room you get to lose.
| Plan | Profit target | Max drawdown (static) | Daily loss | Account sizes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Turbo | 9% | 3% | 3% | $5K to $200K |
| Pro | 12% | 5% | 3% | $5K to $200K |
| Classic | 10% | 6% | 3% | $5K to $100K |
Turbo is the cheapest way in but gives you almost no room for error. A 3% total drawdown on a crypto account means two bad trades can end it.
Pro asks for the highest target but gives you 5% of drawdown. This is the plan for disciplined traders who want the $200K tier.
Classic is the balanced pick. A 10% target with 6% of drawdown is the most forgiving ratio of the three, and it is the plan I would point most people towards.
The drawdown on every plan is static. Your floor is set from the starting balance and never moves up. On a $100K Classic account the floor sits at $94,000 for the life of the account, no matter how much profit you book. Most prop firms use a trailing floor that follows your equity higher, so this is a genuine advantage.
Breakout Pricing
You pay one fee and that is it. There is no subscription, no reset fee, and no activation fee once you pass.
Prices on a $100,000 account look like this:
- Turbo: around $330
- Pro: around $545
- Classic: around $800
A $5,000 Turbo evaluation starts at roughly $20, and the top-end $200K Pro account costs just under $1,100. Fees change from time to time, so check the live checkout before you commit.
The default profit split is 80%. You can buy a 90% split upgrade at checkout, but it cannot be added later. On a $10K account that add-on costs around $48 on Turbo, $78 on Pro, and $102 on Classic. If you plan to trade the account for a while, the maths on the upgrade usually works out in your favour.
One more detail that reviewers consistently confirm: your first payout on a funded account includes a refund of the evaluation fee.
Trading Rules
The rule set is short, which is the whole point.
- News trading is allowed with no blackout windows
- Holding positions over the weekend is allowed
- No consistency rule and no profit caps
- No minimum number of trading days
- Copy trading, third-party signals, and automated bots are banned
- Daily loss resets at 00:30 UTC based on the previous day’s closing balance
That last point catches people out. Your 3% daily limit is calculated from where the account closed at 00:30 UTC, not from your starting balance. If you end a day at $25,000, the next day’s daily loss limit is $750.
Passing the evaluation does not fund you instantly. You complete KYC through Sumsub and sign the Funded Trader Agreement from your dashboard first. Trading on the funded account is enabled once that is approved, which usually takes a day or two.
Platform, Markets, and Leverage
Everything runs on the Breakout Terminal, a proprietary web and mobile platform. There is no MetaTrader or TradingView execution, so if you live in those tools you will need to adjust. The desktop version is solid. The mobile app is usable but reported as laggier.
You get around 60 markets, almost all crypto perpetuals. Leverage is conservative: 5x on BTC and ETH, and 2x on altcoins. That will feel low if you are used to 50x on a centralised exchange, but it fits the prop model. The firm is lending you capital and it wants you to survive.
Trading costs are 0.04% of notional per buy or sell, plus a 0.033% daily swap rate on open positions.
Payouts and Profit Split
This is where Breakout stands out. Payouts are on demand, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The minimum is $50 after the split, and the money arrives in USDC on Ethereum, usually within 24 hours. There is no weekly or biweekly payout schedule and no waiting for a review window.
There is no fiat option, and ERC-20 means you pay gas. For most crypto traders that is a non-issue. For anyone who wants a bank transfer, it is a dealbreaker.
Funded capital is capped at $200,000 across all your accounts. Breakout reviews scaling case by case after roughly three months of consistent performance.
Pros and Cons
Pros
- Owned by Kraken, which removes most counterparty risk
- Static drawdown that never trails
- No time limits, minimum days, or consistency rules
- On-demand USDC payouts, first payout refunds the fee
- Cheap entry from $20
Cons
- Crypto only, no forex or indices
- Proprietary terminal only
- Low leverage of 5x on majors and 2x on alts
- $200K total cap is small next to firms offering seven-figure scaling paths
- USDC-only payouts on Ethereum
- Residents of some countries, including the US and UK, are reported as restricted
Who Should Use Breakout
Breakout suits active crypto traders who already have an edge and want to trade bigger without risking more of their own stack. The clean rules and static drawdown reward people who manage risk properly. It is a poor fit for anyone who relies on bots, copy trading, or high leverage to make a strategy work.
If you are new, the $5K or $10K Classic account is the sensible test. The fee is small, the drawdown is the most forgiving, and you learn whether your approach survives a 3% daily limit before you spend real money on a $100K evaluation. And if you do not have a tested strategy yet, do not buy an evaluation at all. Work through our trading fundamentals series first, from levels and volume to market structure, and come back when you can hold a 3% daily limit on a demo.

Final Words
Breakout is the safest crypto prop firm to try right now, and that is almost entirely because of who owns it. The rules are fair, the static drawdown is rare, and the payout system is built for people who already live on-chain. The trade-offs are the proprietary terminal, the low leverage, and the $200K ceiling.
My take: start small, pick Classic, and treat the first evaluation as a test of your discipline rather than a shot at a quick payout. If your strategy holds up under a 3% daily limit, scaling from there is cheap.
