The Mudwater airdrop is a free trading card drop from Yuga Labs for Bored Ape and Mutant Ape holders. Every BAYC gets 10 packs, and every MAYC gets 2. The cards live on Solana as NFTs, and each one can be swapped for a real printed card. The claim window stays open until January 19, 2027.
Yuga announced it live at ApeFest 2026 in Charleston on October 17. Minutes earlier, the club had airdropped a Totem to every ape, and that Totem is what unlocks the packs. Bored Ape holders have seen plenty of surprise drops over the years, from the Mutant Serum airdrop to ApeCoin itself. Still, this one is different. It is a physical product, it is on Solana, and it comes with a royalty mechanic that buys APE for collectors.
I flipped more than 100 Bored Apes back in the day. Like most people, I faded NFTs recently. So, when Yuga ships something tangible for holders, I pay attention. Here is the full picture.
What Is Mudwater?
Mudwater is a trading card game built around the Bored Ape universe. The first set is called Swamp Origins, and it holds 120 card designs. In total, there are 2.4 million cards across 10,000 boxes. Each box holds 24 packs, and each pack holds 10 cards.
Every card exists twice. One version is an NFT on Solana. The other is a printed card sitting in a vault. You can redeem the token for the physical card, and you can mail the physical card back to turn it into a token again. Orange Cap Games prints the physical cards on its Orange Core paper.
Rarity works the way card collectors expect. There are foils, numbered cards, and serialized “cracked ice” grails. Only eight cracked ice cards are one of ones, and those will anchor the top of the market.
Mudwater is also playable. Yuga CEO Michael Figge said the game already runs inside Otherside with demo cards. In Ante mode, both players stake three cards, and the winner takes one of the loser’s cards at random. Support for your actual on-chain cards comes later.
How the Mudwater Airdrop Works
Everything in Mudwater is a token. Cards and packs are Solana NFTs. A pack holds 10 cards, a box holds 24 packs, and a case holds 10 boxes. You can rip packs on-chain today, and combining packs into boxes comes soon.
The drop started with 6,551 Totems. Each Totem lives in a new ERC-6551 token-bound account that belongs to the ape’s exclusive delegate, not your wallet. That detail matters. Sell the ape, or re-delegate it, and any unclaimed packs go with it.
The split is simple:
- Each Bored Ape claims 10 packs, which is 100 cards
- Each Mutant Ape claims 2 packs, which is 20 cards
Across both collections, that comes to roughly 140,000 packs for apes alone. ApeFest visitors in Charleston also received a sealed box per ape. Beyond that, Yuga reserved allocations for Otherside holders, ApeChain communities, and selected Solana communities. ApeCoin said details on those partner drops land this week.
Claiming burns the Totem and sends a Chainlink CCIP message to Solana. Delivery takes about 20 minutes, and then the packs appear in your Solana wallet. So, you will need a Solana wallet like Phantom, Solflare, or Backpack before you start.
What It Costs to Claim and Rip
The packs themselves are free. You pay Ethereum gas plus a quoted CCIP fee, and unused CCIP fees come back to you. Mudwater covers the delivery cost on Solana.
Costs only show up once you do something with the packs:
- Opening a pack, which Yuga calls a “rip,” costs 8 USDC per pack
- Converting a card between printed and digital costs 10 USDC (coming soon)
- Trading carries a 5% on-chain royalty, with half of it going to APE buybacks
So, ripping all 10 packs from one Bored Ape costs 80 USDC. Payment runs in USDC on Solana, and Mudwater shows you its deposit address after sign-in. You do not need to decide today. Sealed packs trade just fine, and they keep earning reflections while they stay sealed.
How Yuga Keeps the Packs Honest
Here is the part collectors should care about. Before any pack can be opened, the 10 cards inside each physical pack are hashed into a commitment and written on-chain. When you rip, the program checks every card against that commitment. Once it is on-chain, nobody can change what is inside, including Yuga.
Certified packs chain together in an append-only ledger inside the program. Each new batch hashes on top of the last. There are 2.4 million card slots, tracked as bitmaps, and the program cannot mint the same serial twice. In plain terms, the pack contents were fixed before you touched them, and every serial is unique by design.
Every pack you claim is also a lottery ticket. Each claim earns a chance to win a serialized booster pack. Winners get drawn in rounds using a commit-reveal scheme, and the first draw happens 30 days after launch.
The ApeCoin Twist: Half the Royalties Buy APE
Here is the part that got crypto Twitter talking. Royalties are 5% on-chain across all the Solana collections. Half of that, 2.5%, goes to buying back ApeCoin. Those APE tokens then go out as weekly reflections to anyone holding an on-chain pack, box, or case.
Figge called it an experiment in aligning projects and collectors. In practice, it is a reflection token model wrapped around a card game. The more Mudwater trades, the more APE gets bought, and the more collectors earn.
Note that the APE is bought, not burned. It ends up in collector wallets rather than a dead address. That is still real buy pressure on APE, and it rewards people who keep packs sealed.
How much that matters depends on volume. NFT volume has been thin for months, and a Bored Ape costs roughly 97% less than at its peak. However, Yuga has been quietly stacking wins this year. The Weitsman board appointment, the lawsuit settlement, and now a Solana product with a real distribution all point the same direction.
First Hours on OpenSea
OpenSea lists three separate collections: Mudwater Totems, Mudwater Packs, and Mudwater Cards. About an hour after launch, OpenSea showed 831 claimed packs across 87 addresses. Four packs were listed, with the cheapest at 1.90 SOL, around $196 at the time. Nothing had sold yet.
That is a snapshot, not a price. With four listings, the floor tells you very little. Expect it to move a lot once more apes claim and start ripping. Meanwhile, this launch landed the same week Blur announced its shutdown, which says a lot about where NFT marketplace attention is going.
How to Claim Safely
Big NFT claims attract copycats within hours. Yuga closed its own announcement by asking holders to cross-check every link. So, follow these rules:
- Only use mudwater.bayc.com. Type it yourself or use the link on bayc.com. Ignore links from DMs, replies, or ads.
- Connect your Ethereum wallet and sign the login message. The claim page says this signature does not approve any payment.
- Check your Totems. The page shows how many packs your apes qualify for.
- Connect a Solana wallet. Choose carefully, because the recipient locks after the first successful transaction.
- Hit “Claim All.” One Ethereum transaction carries up to 72 packs.
- Wait about 20 minutes for delivery. Do not claim twice. Packs show up under “Inventory.”
If you keep your apes in cold storage, delegate at delegate.xyz with the shadow checkbox ticked. The claim rights move to that delegate wallet, so your vault never touches the claim page. And if any site asks for setApprovalForAll, a seed phrase, or a transfer of your ape, stop immediately. Afterwards, revoke any token approvals you did not mean to grant.
What Comes Next
Yuga outlined a few next steps:
- Serialized booster pack winners drawn in rounds, starting 30 days after launch
- Combining packs into boxes, and boxes into crates
- Converting cards between printed and digital form
- ApeChain community allocations, with details promised this week
- A Solana address inside Glyph, Yuga’s wallet
Keep an eye on our NFT airdrops page for the partner allocations once they go live.

Final Words
Mudwater is the most tangible thing Yuga has handed its holders in a long time. The claim costs only gas, the window runs until January, and nobody has to decide today whether to open, hold, or sell.
Whether the APE reflections add up to anything depends on trading volume over the coming weeks. Physical cards, a playable game, and a Solana distribution give it a better shot than most NFT drops in 2026. For once, the apes have something to rip.
