Who Is Cobie? Jordan Fish, Echo and Coinbase Profile 2026

Cobie, real name Jordan Fish, is a British crypto trader, angel investor, co-founder of Lido, co-host of the UpOnly podcast, and founder of the fundraising platform Echo. Coinbase bought Echo in October 2025 for around $375 million and in July 2026 put him in charge of the Base app and its whole trading product suite. He started as a professional online poker player who put a couple of hundred dollars into Bitcoin in 2013.

That last line is why this profile is personal for me. This one covers how he went from grinding poker to running product at a public company, why crypto Twitter still hangs on his posts, and what one former poker pro thinks of another.

From poker tables to Monzo

Fish grew up in the UK and studied at Bristol. Like a lot of people who ended up in crypto early, he found it through online poker. He played professionally in the years when poker money and Bitcoin money mixed constantly, and he bought his first coins around 2013 for a few hundred dollars. It is close to my own origin story, which I wrote up in crypto lessons from poker.

His day job was product. He worked at Monzo, the British neobank, as a product lead during its early growth years. That combination, degen trading at night and consumer product design by day, is unusual in crypto and it explains everything he built later.

In 2017 he became CryptoCobain on Twitter. The account was funny, blunt, and early to almost every trade of the ICO cycle. It also survived the 2018 crash, which most 2017 accounts did not. By 2020 he had dropped the Cobain, kept the Cobie, and had one of the largest followings in the industry.

Lido, UpOnly and the Coinbase insider

Three things made him more than a Twitter personality.

The first was Lido. In late 2020, before the Ethereum Merge, he helped found the liquid staking protocol that let people stake ETH and keep a tradable token. Lido became the largest DeFi protocol on earth and at its peak held a third of all staked ETH. Cobie’s involvement was mostly early, and he has been critical of the protocol’s dominance since, but the co-founder credit is real.

The second was UpOnly. In 2021 he and Brian Krogsgard, known as Ledger, launched a podcast that became the bull market’s town square. Vitalik, SBF, Do Kwon, Su Zhu and Arthur Hayes all sat down with them, often while the same guests were in the middle of doing the things that later put some of them in prison. The show went dark in 2023, and Coinbase bought the UpOnly NFT for $25 million as part of the Echo deal, hinting at a revival.

The third was the Coinbase insider case. In April 2022 Cobie posted on-chain evidence that a wallet had bought tokens days before Coinbase listed them, every time. Coinbase investigated, the DOJ charged a former product manager, and the first insider trading conviction in crypto followed. A trader with a Twitter account caught what a public company’s compliance team missed.

Echo, Sonar and the $375 million exit

Cobie launched Echo in 2024 as an answer to a problem he complained about for years. Retail got the worst prices in crypto, buying tokens from VCs who bought them at a tenth of the price. Echo let vetted community investors join private rounds alongside funds, at the same terms.

It worked. By late 2025 Echo had run around 300 deals and moved over $200 million. Sonar, its public sale product, hosted token launches for projects like Plasma and MegaETH in a compliant format that avoided the ICO-era legal mess. If you want to see what is launching now, browse the latest airdrops and you will find plenty of projects that used the same community-first playbook.

Coinbase paid roughly $375 million in cash and stock for Echo in October 2025. Cobie said he never expected to sell to them. In July 2026 Jesse Pollak handed him the Base app, and Coinbase gave him the main app and Pro as well. His mandate is to fix the user experience of the largest US exchange. A poker player now decides what tens of millions of retail traders see when they open Coinbase.

Why Cobie moves markets

Cobie never runs price predictions and rarely shills a coin. His influence comes from something rarer in crypto: people trust that he is not selling them anything.

The first channel is his writing. His essays on token unlocks, the “low float high FDV” problem, and why retail loses to VCs shaped how a whole cycle thought about launches. Projects changed their tokenomics because of a Cobie post.

The second is his exposure work. The Coinbase insider case was one of several. When he flags a wallet or a project, the market moves before the details are out, because his hit rate is high.

The third is now institutional. As the man in charge of Coinbase’s trading products and a Paradigm advisor since 2025, he decides what gets listed prominently, what the default user sees, and which launches get the Sonar treatment. That matters most on Base, where the app is the front door for retail. We follow the chain closely on our Base tag page, and the best Base meme coins list is where his product decisions will show up first.

Cobie’s ventures and holdings

  • Echo and Sonar, sold to Coinbase in 2025, now inside Coinbase
  • Lido, co-founded in 2020, where he still holds LDO from the founding allocation
  • UpOnly, the podcast with Ledger, with the NFT now owned by Coinbase
  • Paradigm, where he advises on liquid market strategy
  • Angel investments across DeFi and infrastructure, plus a personal portfolio he describes as mostly ETH, BTC and cash

Track record: the hits and the misses

The hits are unusual because they are not price calls. Lido was the right bet on the Merge. The Coinbase insider catch was right. His warnings about FTX-era leverage, delivered on his own podcast to the people running it, aged perfectly. Echo solved a real problem and got a real exit, and Sonar showed that public token sales could work without an SEC lawsuit.

The misses are mostly about proximity. UpOnly gave a friendly platform to SBF, Do Kwon and Su Zhu, and Cobie has said he regrets how easy those interviews were. He was an early Lido founder and then a critic of Lido’s size, which reads as convenient to some. And Coinbase now employs the man who once embarrassed it, which will test whether the watchdog can also be the product owner.

The criticism

Retail critics say Echo was still a VC product with a community sticker, since only accredited investors could join most rounds.

Ethereum purists dislike that a Lido co-founder now runs product at the company behind Base, a centralized Layer 2 with its own staking product. Two of the biggest centralization worries in Ethereum now share one founder.

Old followers say the funny trader is gone. Cobie posts less, jokes less, and talks like an executive. That is what a $375 million exit does to a Twitter account.

Should beginners follow Cobie?

Yes, and read the old essays first. His writing on unlocks, float and how VCs exit onto retail is the best free education on why most new tokens go down. It will save you money.

Watch what he does at Coinbase. Which launches get Sonar, what the Base app promotes, and which listings get front-page placement now come from his team. That is a listing signal you can act on.

Do not expect calls. He is one of the few big accounts who never gave price targets, and he is not going to start now that he is inside a public company.

My Take

Cobie and I took the same road into crypto. I played professional poker from 2010 to 2017, and the Bitcoin forums of that era were full of poker players moving money around because banks made it impossible. We were early because we were already living outside the banking system, not because we were visionaries. Cobie would say the same.

What he did with it is the difference. Most poker players who found Bitcoin, me included, stayed traders and builders of small things. He used the poker skills, reading people and pricing risk, to become the best interviewer in crypto, and then used the product skills from Monzo to build something Coinbase wanted for nine figures. That is a rare stack.

I like that he never sold a price target. In a series full of men with Bitcoin predictions, he is the one who made his money by understanding structure instead of shouting numbers. My one worry is the new job. The best thing about Cobie was that he was outside, poking at the companies. Now he is inside the biggest one.

There is a neat symmetry with the last profile. Balaji Srinivasan sold Earn.com to Coinbase in 2018 for over $100 million and lasted a year as CTO. Cobie sold Echo for $375 million in 2025. Let’s see if he lasts longer.

Keep This Content Free

Writing about the other poker player who did better than me is good for humility and bad for the ego. If this profile was useful, support us by trading on OKX or Bybit through our links. No cost to you, and it keeps the profiles coming.

Final Words

Cobie went from poker grinder to Lido co-founder to podcast host to Coinbase product boss without ever selling a prediction. He is proof that in crypto the people who understand structure end up with more power than the people who call prices. Whether that power survives inside a public company is the next chapter.
