Ripple and Robinhood announced a strategic partnership on October 27. The deal makes Ripple’s RLUSD stablecoin a key dollar token across Robinhood’s crypto business. RLUSD is already live on Robinhood Chain and Bitstamp by Robinhood. Next, it should reach the main Robinhood app later this year.
That is the short answer. However, the deal goes deeper than one stablecoin listing. Robinhood will also run parts of its own treasury on Ripple software and expand financing through Ripple Prime. Here is what changed, and what it actually means for XRP.
What Ripple and Robinhood Announced
The partnership has three parts. First, RLUSD becomes a core stablecoin for Robinhood’s retail and institutional users. Second, Robinhood plugs Ripple Treasury into its own finance operations. Third, Ripple Prime deepens its financing role at Bitstamp.
Ripple President Monica Long framed the deal around a bigger shift. In her view, stablecoins are moving from trading tools into core financial plumbing. Robinhood crypto chief Johann Kerbrat put it more bluntly: “Utility is what moves stablecoins forward.”
The timing matters too. News landed hours before Robinhood’s third-quarter earnings, due after today’s market close. Meanwhile, HOOD shares climbed more than 3% on the headline.
Where RLUSD Is Live Today
RLUSD already works in two Robinhood venues:
- Robinhood Chain: the company’s own Ethereum Layer 2, which our Robinhood Chain explainer breaks down.
- Bitstamp by Robinhood: the global exchange Robinhood bought last year.
The main Robinhood app comes later. Both companies say RLUSD should arrive there before the end of the year. Until then, retail users outside Bitstamp need to go onchain to touch it.
Robinhood also plans to settle institutional trades in RLUSD on the XRP Ledger. That flow runs through Bitstamp’s growing institutional desk. As a result, the XRPL picks up a new source of real settlement volume.
Ripple Treasury and Ripple Prime: The Back-Office Deal
Most headlines focus on the stablecoin. Yet the treasury piece may prove the stickiest part. Robinhood will use Ripple Treasury for cash and liquidity management, forecasting, payments, risk management and intercompany netting.
In plain terms, a public company now moves parts of its own money management onto Ripple software. Ripping that out later would be painful. Back-office tools tend to stay once a company installs them.
Ripple Prime is the other leg. The prime broker, formerly Hidden Road, already gives Bitstamp lending and margin financing across roughly 20 digital assets. On top of that, Ripple Prime clients can trade spot on the exchange. So liquidity now flows between the two firms in both directions.
What This Means for XRP
Here is the honest read. The headline says XRP, but the direct winner is RLUSD. Robinhood is adopting Ripple’s stablecoin and software, not buying XRP for its balance sheet.
That said, XRP still gains something. Institutional RLUSD settlement on the XRP Ledger means more activity on the network XRP powers. Every transaction burns a tiny XRP fee. Still, that effect stays small next to ETF flows or the wider market.
The bigger win is credibility. A retail broker with 28.6 million funded customers now runs on Ripple rails. For a project that spent years fighting the SEC, that kind of validation counts.
Our XRP Uptober breakdown covers the chart levels. New to the coin? Start with our XRP and Ripple guide, then follow the steps to buy XRP for the first time. For stock-market exposure instead, the Evernorth XRPN treasury stock is the other route.
Why Robinhood Wants Another Stablecoin
Robinhood is no stranger to stablecoins. The company already co-backs USDG through the Global Dollar Network. Adding RLUSD therefore looks like diversification rather than a switch.
The market is big enough for several winners. Total stablecoin supply now sits above $300 billion. RLUSD alone has grown past $2.5 billion in market cap since its December 2024 launch. Even so, USDT and USDC still dominate by a wide margin.
For Robinhood, more dollar options mean cheaper settlement and less single-issuer risk. Ripple, on the other hand, gets mainstream distribution, which is the hardest thing to buy. Both sides get what they lack.
What to Watch Next
Three signals matter from here:
- Tonight’s earnings call. Robinhood reports Q3 after the bell. Listen for crypto revenue and any RLUSD timeline.
- The app rollout. A firm date for RLUSD in the main Robinhood app would be the real retail catalyst.
- XRPL settlement data. Watch whether RLUSD supply on the XRP Ledger climbs once Bitstamp settlement ramps up.
Robinhood’s wider crypto push sits in our Robinhood review. Meanwhile, the Robinhood Chain 100 days report tracks the chain’s volume and holders so far.

Final Words
Ripple just landed one of the biggest distribution deals in its history. RLUSD gets a path into a mainstream retail app. In return, Robinhood gets stablecoin, treasury and financing rails from one provider. XRP benefits indirectly, mainly through XRPL settlement and credibility. The real test comes when RLUSD shows up inside the Robinhood app itself.
