Hyperliquid vs edgeX 2026: Depth vs Fee Refunds

By WebDeskOctober 21, 20266 Mins Read

Hyperliquid and edgeX both run fast, CEX-style order books with self-custody. Both already dropped their tokens on early users. What separates them is how they treat you after the airdrop. Hyperliquid leans on unmatched liquidity and a buyback machine. edgeX pays you back for trading, returning your fees in USDC and EDGE.

This Hyperliquid vs edgeX comparison breaks down fees, liquidity, markets, backers, token models and ongoing rewards. By the end, you’ll know which venue deserves your volume.

The Quick Take

Hyperliquid is the better perp DEX for large traders and anyone who values deep liquidity, open access and the widest market list. edgeX is the better choice for active traders who want to earn while they trade, since its Trade to Earn program refunds 100% of fees in USDC and EDGE. Run size on Hyperliquid, and send reward-hunting volume to edgeX.

Each platform has a full deep dive on the site. Read our Hyperliquid review and our edgeX review for the complete picture. This article stays on the head-to-head.

Hyperliquid edgeX
Model On-chain order book on its own Layer 1 High-speed order book, USDC-settled
Base fees 0.045% taker / 0.015% maker Standard fees, refunded via Trade to Earn
30-day perp volume (mid-Sep 2026) ~$239B ~$42B
Markets Crypto perps, spot, HIP-3 stocks and commodities Crypto, stock and commodity perps, spot
Ongoing rewards Speculation on a future season Fee refunds, weekly mystery boxes, rotating campaigns
Token HYPE, Nov 2024 EDGE, Mar 2026
Backing Self-funded Amber Group, Circle Ventures
US access Not officially Blocked at wallet level

Fees and Rebates

On paper, the two charge similar base fees. Hyperliquid takes 0.045% per taker order and 0.015% per maker order at the entry tier. Volume and HYPE staking lower those rates.

edgeX changes the math with Trade to Earn. The program hands back 100% of the fees you pay, split between USDC and EDGE tokens. Your trading costs effectively turn into rewards, although part of the refund arrives in a token whose price moves.

Keep the usual caveats in mind. Funding, spread and slippage still apply everywhere. On a thinner book, slippage can eat into the value of a refund.

Edge: edgeX, especially for smaller and mid-size traders.

Liquidity and Volume

Hyperliquid cleared about $239 billion in perp volume over 30 days in mid-September 2026. It often holds more open interest than the next nine perp DEXs combined. For big orders, nothing on-chain comes close.

edgeX posted roughly $42 billion over the same period. That ranks it among the largest perp DEXs, right alongside Lighter and ahead of most rivals. It just trades about a sixth of Hyperliquid’s volume.

What does that mean in practice? For typical retail orders, edgeX fills cleanly. Once you trade whale size, Hyperliquid’s depth becomes worth more than any rebate.

Edge: Hyperliquid.

What You Can Trade

The market menus look similar at first glance. Both list crypto perps, stock perps, commodity perps and spot.

Hyperliquid gets its traditional markets through HIP-3, where builders deploy their own perps. That model grew fast, and Kraken’s parent Payward now plans to launch perps on Hyperliquid for eligible US clients. HyperEVM, vaults and a large app ecosystem add more reasons to stay.

edgeX runs its own markets directly and settles everything in USDC. Its interface feels closer to a centralized exchange, which helps traders coming over from Binance or Bybit. The ecosystem around it stays smaller, though.

Edge: Hyperliquid for breadth and ecosystem.

Backers and Trust

These two took opposite paths to launch. Hyperliquid raised zero venture money and built everything from trading revenue. Its long record at huge scale includes a few stress tests, like validator interventions during market incidents.

edgeX came out of Amber Group, a major crypto market maker, which explains its CEX-grade execution. Circle Ventures, the investment arm behind USDC, also backs it. Its token launch drew some criticism when the team closed comments on its TGE countdown post, which fed complaints about transparency.

Edge: Hyperliquid for track record, edgeX for institutional roots.

HYPE vs EDGE: Tokens After the Airdrop

Both platforms rewarded their early users generously. Hyperliquid’s Genesis airdrop in November 2024 gave away 31% of HYPE supply. Nearly all trading fees now fund HYPE buybacks through the Assistance Fund. Farmers still hope for a next round, which we follow on our Hyperliquid Season 3 tracker.

edgeX actually dropped two tokens. Early traders first earned the MARU meme token through weekly drops. Then the EDGE launch on March 31, 2026 sent 25% of supply to the community, fully unlocked. About 70% of EDGE still sits with ecosystem, contributor and foundation allocations, so future unlocks matter for holders.

The bigger difference is what happens now. Hyperliquid pays no ongoing trading rewards beyond buybacks. edgeX keeps paying through fee refunds, weekly mystery boxes and rotating campaigns. Its most recent one, Arc Genesis, ended on October 16, and new ones tend to follow quickly. Our edgeX airdrop listing logs each campaign as it goes live.

Grinding volume for rewards works better with hedged positions. Our delta-neutral farming guide explains how to offset a position on one venue with another.

Edge: edgeX for ongoing rewards, Hyperliquid for token strength.

Which Venue Fits Your Style?

Hyperliquid works best if you:

  • Trade large positions and need the deepest liquidity
  • Want HyperEVM DeFi, vaults or HIP-3 markets
  • Prefer a mature token with strong buybacks

edgeX works best if you:

  • Trade actively and want your fees back
  • Like a familiar, CEX-style interface
  • Chase mystery boxes and rotating campaigns

The two combine well. Open your Hyperliquid account through our link for size and depth. Then join edgeX with our referral link to turn your smaller trades into rewards.

Final Words

Hyperliquid and edgeX both survived their airdrops, but in different ways. Hyperliquid kept users with depth, markets and buybacks. edgeX kept them by refunding fees and running constant campaigns. Use Hyperliquid as your anchor, and let edgeX pay you on the side.

In the previous matchup, we compared two zero-fee platforms. Read Lighter vs Variational to see which one came out ahead. For the skills that make any venue profitable, explore our trading fundamentals articles.

Hyperliquid Airdrop is still one of the best farms around.

FAQ

Is edgeX cheaper than Hyperliquid?
Effectively, yes, for most traders. edgeX charges standard fees but refunds 100% of them in USDC and EDGE through Trade to Earn. Hyperliquid’s deeper books can still make it cheaper on very large orders.

Which has more liquidity, Hyperliquid or edgeX?
Hyperliquid, by far. It traded roughly six times edgeX’s perp volume over the same 30-day window in September 2026.

Did edgeX do an airdrop?
Yes. Early traders received the MARU meme token, and the EDGE launch on March 31, 2026 sent 25% of supply to the community, fully unlocked.

Is the edgeX Arc Genesis campaign still running?
No. Arc Genesis ended on October 16, 2026. edgeX runs new campaigns regularly, alongside ongoing fee refunds and weekly mystery boxes.

Can US traders use Hyperliquid or edgeX?
Neither officially serves US users, and edgeX blocks them at the wallet level. Kraken’s parent plans a permissioned route to Hyperliquid perps for eligible US clients.
