How to Buy SUI for the First Time: 2026 Guide

To buy SUI, open an account on a crypto exchange, verify it, deposit funds, and buy on the SUI/USDT spot market. SUI is the native coin of Sui, a fast Layer 1 blockchain built by former Meta engineers. Every major exchange lists it, so the whole process takes about fifteen minutes. Afterward, you can keep it on the exchange or move it to your own wallet. This guide shows how to buy SUI step by step. I also share my own history with the coin.

What Sui Is

Sui is a Layer 1 blockchain, which means it runs its own network. Mysten Labs built it, and the founders previously led blockchain research at Meta. The mainnet went live in May 2023.

Two design choices set Sui apart. First, it uses the Move programming language, which was designed with asset safety in mind. Second, it processes many transactions at the same time instead of one by one. As a result, the network stays fast and fees stay low, even when it is busy.

SUI is the coin that powers all of this. You need it to pay transaction fees, and you can stake it to help secure the network. The maximum supply is 10 billion coins. However, less than half of that circulates today, so new coins still unlock every month.

My History With SUI

I held spot SUI for well over a year. During that time, it was one of the stronger altcoins on my screen, and I wrote about that position back then. Today, I do not hold any.

That does not mean I stopped watching. SUI remains on my watchlist for trading. It is liquid, it moves with real volume, and it tends to lead when Layer 1 coins get attention. So whenever that part of the market wakes up, SUI is one of the charts I open first.

To be clear, none of this is a signal. I am out of the coin right now, and I may stay out. Still, knowing how to buy it quickly matters when the setup appears.

Buy SUI on an Exchange

A centralized exchange is the easiest place to start. OKX is my first pick for SUI, because the order book is deep and the app is clear. Register through our OKX referral link to collect the welcome bonus. After OKX, I would look at Bybit. In the same way, our Bybit referral link gives new users extra rewards. Finally, Blofin is a solid third option with a clean trading screen.

The buying steps barely differ between them:

  1. Create your account and turn on two-factor security.
  2. Complete the identity check if the platform asks for one.
  3. Deposit by bank transfer, by card, or with crypto.
  4. Swap to USDT when needed, then open SUI/USDT.
  5. Place a small market order to begin.

Once you own SUI, decide how to store it. Our comparison of self-custody and exchange storage lays out the trade-offs.

Move SUI to Your Own Wallet

SUI is the gas coin of its own chain. Because of that, the practical route is to buy on an exchange and then withdraw. For the wallet, Phantom works well, since it supports Sui next to Solana and Ethereum.

Here is how the transfer goes. First, install the wallet and store your seed phrase offline. Second, copy your Sui address from the wallet. Third, start a withdrawal on the exchange and choose the Sui network. Then send a small test amount before you move the rest.

From your wallet, you can also stake SUI with a validator. Staking earns rewards, although the rate changes over time. In addition, a wallet lets you use the DEXs and lending apps on Sui. Just keep a little SUI aside, because every action costs a small fee.

Trade SUI With Perps

Traders who want leverage can use perpetual futures. OKX and Bybit both list SUI perps, right beside their spot markets. That keeps everything in one account. As an on-chain alternative, Hyperliquid offers SUI perps as well, and our Hyperliquid referral link cuts the trading fees. Keep the risk in mind, though. SUI is volatile, and leverage can close your position on a normal dip. Therefore, most beginners should stick to spot.

Where to Buy SUI in Your Country

SUI is easy to find worldwide. Even so, your country determines which platforms accept you.

United States

SUI is listed on the large US-regulated exchanges. Our US exchange guide helps you pick one.

Europe

Across Europe, MiCA-licensed platforms are the safe choice. Our Europe exchange guide compares the leaders.

Latin America

In this region, the deposit method often decides everything. Our Latin America exchange guide shows what works where.

East Asia

Sui has a large following in Asia. However, rules vary by country, so check our East Asia exchange guide.

India

Indian traders pay tax on each crypto sale. For that reason, our India exchange guide is worth a read first.

Keep This Content Free

I held SUI for more than a year, and writing about it has always been free for you. If you sign up with the links on this page, you receive a bonus and we receive a commission. That is what pays for guides like this one.

Final Words

SUI is a simple coin to buy. OKX and Bybit both handle it within minutes, and a wallet like Phantom gives you control afterward. For me, SUI is a former long-term hold that now lives on my trading watchlist. If it ends up on yours too, start small, test your withdrawals, and never use leverage you do not understand.
