Who Is Ansem and Why Is He Famous?

One trader tweets about a dog-themed coin, and millions of dollars move within minutes. That trader is often Ansem. New traders see his name everywhere and ask the same question: why is Crypto Twitter obsessed with this guy?

This guide explains who Ansem is, how he became famous, and why his posts move markets. More importantly, we cover what beginners should actually do with that information.

Who Is Ansem?

Ansem is the online handle of Zion Thomas, a crypto trader and analyst who posts as @blknoiz06 on X. He built an audience of over 750,000 followers, mostly focused on Solana and meme coins.

Here is the short version:

  • Crypto trader and influencer, active since 2017
  • One of the biggest voices in the Solana ecosystem, nicknamed “The Solana Guy”
  • Best known for early calls on meme coins like BONK and WIF
  • Millions of impressions every month across X and podcasts
  • Head of Research at TCG Crypto and co-founder of trading platform Bullpen (with a potential airdrop)

People pay attention because his track record includes a handful of legendary calls. He bought Solana around $1.50 and held through a run that peaked near $260. Numbers like that turn a random account into a household name on Crypto Twitter.

CoinDesk even named him one of the Most Influential people in crypto in 2024, with the tag “Memecoin King.”

How Did Ansem Become Famous?

This is the interesting part. Nobody starts with 750,000 followers.

Early crypto days. Zion Thomas discovered Bitcoin during a course at Georgia Tech and graduated in 2017. He took a software engineering job at Capital One while trading crypto on the side. By 2021, trading paid better than coding, so he went full-time.

Building a following on X. Around 2020, he began posting every coin he bought as public trade journaling. Only a few hundred people followed him back then. His mix of technical analysis, meme culture, and unfiltered opinions slowly built an audience.

Conviction during the FTX aftermath. This is the moment that made him. After FTX collapsed in late 2022, Solana crashed and most of the market left it for dead. Ansem stayed loudly bullish while everyone else called the chain finished. When Solana recovered and ran hard through 2023 and 2024, his conviction looked prophetic.

The meme coin era. He backed BONK and Dogwifhat (WIF) before either was widely known. Reports put his returns at roughly 80x on BONK and around 520x on WIF. Those trades, visible on-chain, converted casual followers into people who act on his every post.

Ansem vs Bitboy

Beyond trading. He also boxed at crypto events, including a famous 2024 bout against BitBoy that ended in a draw. On the builder side, he co-founded Bullpen, a trading platform for meme coins and perps. In April 2026, he launched the Market Bubble podcast with FaZe Banks, presented by Polymarket. The show covers markets, prediction markets, and internet culture, and pulls major guests from both crypto and mainstream media.

None of this is hero worship. It is simply the timeline that explains why one account carries so much weight.

Why Does Ansem Move Markets?

This is probably the section you came for. The mechanics are simpler than you might think.

Large audience meets fast markets. Meme coins have tiny market caps compared to Bitcoin. When 750,000 people see a tweet about a $10 million coin, even a small percentage buying creates a violent price move.

Attention is the scarcest resource in crypto. Thousands of tokens launch every day. Almost all of them die in obscurity. A single mention from a major account solves the hardest problem any token has: getting noticed.

Reflexivity does the rest. Traders know his tweets move prices. So some buy instantly, not because they believe in the coin, but because they expect others to buy after them. The tweet becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy, at least briefly.

However, tweets do not create value forever. Attention spikes fade within hours or days. A coin with no community, no development, and no staying power returns to where gravity takes it. Influencer attention is a spark, not fuel.

What Is the ANSEM Coin?

The community even created an ANSEM meme coin, branded “The Black Bull,” on Solana. Ansem did not launch it himself. An anonymous developer created the token and used his name to attract attention, which happens to almost every major crypto personality.

Then the story took a turn. In late June 2026, Ansem announced he would redirect his Pump.fun creator fees into weekly airdrops for ANSEM holders, picking winners at random each week. The token exploded nearly 20,000% in seven days on the news, hitting an all-time high with a fully diluted valuation near $121 million. Since then, it has landed a BloFin spot listing and even shows up on Robinhood, though the price has cooled well off its peak.

A KOL recycling creator fees into recurring community airdrops is a new playbook, and one worth watching if you farm airdrops for a living.

We covered the full story, tokenomics, and risks in our dedicated guide: What Is ANSEM Coin? The Black Bull Explained.

Has Ansem Been Right?

Sometimes spectacularly. His Solana, BONK, and WIF calls rank among the best publicly documented trades of the last cycle. He also called Solana’s recovery after FTX when that opinion was deeply unpopular.

That said, nobody has a perfect record. He has backed coins that went nowhere. He has been early, late, and wrong, like every trader who posts long enough. His own approach relies on a few outsized wins covering many smaller losses.

Remember this asymmetry: you see the highlight reels on your timeline. The losing calls quietly disappear from the conversation. Judging any influencer by their most viral wins gives you a distorted picture.

Criticism

Every major influencer attracts criticism, and Ansem is no exception. The common themes:

  • Influencer culture itself. Critics argue that markets driven by personalities rather than fundamentals are unhealthy, and Ansem sits at the center of that dynamic.
  • Blind copy-trading. Followers who ape into every mention often buy tops. By the time a tweet goes viral, early buyers already hold cheaper entries.
  • Impossible expectations. With 750,000 followers, someone always loses money on any call. Those people rarely stay quiet about it.
  • Blame when markets fall. Accusations fly at every big account during downturns, whether deserved or not.

He has publicly distanced himself from copycat tokens using his name and reminds followers he does not endorse most of them. Still, the criticism comes with the territory. Anyone with that much market influence gets scrutinized, and honestly, they should be.

Should Beginners Follow Ansem?

Here is where we add some perspective. Following experienced traders can help you discover narratives early. Blindly buying every coin they mention usually doesn’t.

A smarter approach looks like this:

  • Use influencers for ideas, not instructions. A tweet tells you where attention is flowing. Treat it as a starting point for research, never as a buy signal.
  • Always do your own research. Check the token’s liquidity, holder distribution, and community before touching it. Our guide on what makes a good meme coin walks through exactly what to look for.
  • Manage risk ruthlessly. Meme coins can drop 90% in a day. Never allocate money you cannot afford to lose completely.

The traders who profit from influencer attention are usually the ones positioned before the tweet, not after it.

My Take

In crypto, narratives spread through people as much as technology. Whether you agree with Ansem or not, understanding why thousands of traders watch him helps explain how meme coin markets actually work.

Personally, I have never met him. Based on his tweets, I doubt we would vibe in real life, but you never really know that until you share a beer.

Would I follow his calls? Probably not. Maybe in a raging bull market, when rising tides forgive sloppy entries. Right now, buying his calls often means becoming exit liquidity, either for him or for the traders who anticipated the tweet. That is an observation, not an accusation. It is simply how attention-driven markets function, and he understands that game better than almost anyone.

Final Words

Ansem earned his influence the old-fashioned crypto way: early conviction, public receipts, and a few trades that made his followers rich. His story explains a lot about how modern crypto markets work, where attention often matters more than technology.

Learn from how he spots narratives early. Study why his tweets move prices. Just remember that his edge comes from being first, and by definition, you are reading his tweets second.
