SLICE Test: Exploring Pi Network’s Innovations

Pi Network has wrapped up its second Launchpad test by distributing 10 million SLICE test tokens, giving Pioneers their first hands-on experience with liquidity pools, automated pricing and token swaps before Mainnet. The goal isn’t fundraising, it’s helping users understand how Pi’s future ecosystem tokens will work in real-world applications. They can be used for features such as payments, access to premium services, rewards, and governance. By testing these use cases in a real application, the Pi Core Team hopes to refine the Launchpad before its Mainnet release.

242,000 Pioneers Joined the Experiment

The SLICE Testnet launch ran from June 11 to June 28, attracting over 242,000 participating Pioneers.

Together, they committed 15.92 million Test-Pi to acquire the 10 million SLICE supply.

Unlike Pi’s first Launchpad test, SLICE was connected to the live Slice of Pi game, allowing the Core Team to test engagement bonuses through an actual application instead of a dummy app. The launch also introduced a simpler participation process where users only needed to decide how much Test-Pi they wanted to commit, while the system automatically calculated token allocations and engagement rewards.

Wait…Where Does Test-Pi Go?

Here’s where Pi changed the usual token launch model.

Instead of sending the collected Test-Pi to the project, every Test-Pi contributed goes directly into a liquidity pool alongside SLICE. According to Pi Network, this creates healthy liquidity from day one while giving projects tokens that function as tools for payments, rewards, governance and app access instead of simply raising money.

The pool works alongside Pi DEX’s traditional order book while also using an Automated Market Maker (AMM) to calculate swap prices.

The Math Behind Every Swap

Pi Network also explained exactly how pricing changes using a simple formula:

SLICE Reserve × Test-Pi Reserve = Constant

For example:

• Pool starts with 10 SLICE and 10 Test-Pi
• 10 × 10 = 100
• A Pioneer buys 5 SLICE
• Only 5 SLICE remain in the pool
• To keep the constant at 100, the Test-Pi reserve must increase to 20
• Since the pool originally had 10 Test-Pi, the buyer adds another 10 Test-Pi (excluding fees)

Result?

The pool now holds 20 Test-Pi and 5 SLICE, making the remaining SLICE more expensive.

If someone swaps SLICE back into the pool, the reverse happens, SLICE supply increases, Test-Pi decreases, and the displayed price moves lower.

What’s New Now?

Following distribution, Pioneers can now view:

• Individual SLICE allocations
• Launch and effective token prices
• The SLICE liquidity pool
• A live price chart tracking swaps against Test-Pi

Although SLICE will never migrate to Mainnet, Pi Network says the entire exercise is helping users learn DeFi basics while providing real data that will shape the final Launchpad experience before official Mainnet ecosystem token launches.
