How to Buy Polymarket Stock: Pre-IPO Perp on Bybit

By WebDeskSeptember 23, 20269 Mins Read

You can’t buy Polymarket stock. The company is still private. As of today, though, you can trade its valuation. Bybit listed POLYMARKETUSDT, a Polymarket pre-IPO perpetual contract, on September 23 at 9:00 UTC. I opened a $5,000 long in the first hours. It worked.

This guide covers what the contract actually is and how to open a position. It also covers two very different ways to use it. Farmers can finally hedge a future POLY airdrop. Degens can top-blast a $21 billion valuation on leverage. Pick your fighter.

Can You Buy Polymarket Stock?

No, not directly. Polymarket is a private company, so its shares don’t trade on any stock exchange. Retail traders have no way to buy its equity before an IPO. The closest thing is a pre-IPO perpetual contract. It tracks what traders think Polymarket is worth, settles in USDT, and runs with leverage. You get price exposure. You don’t get shares, voting rights or dividends.

For reference, the last private round valued Polymarket at $21 billion post-money. 1789 Capital, the fund co-founded by Donald Trump Jr., led that $1 billion raise in early September. That’s up from $15 billion in April and roughly $9 billion when ICE invested in October 2025. We tracked that climb in our Polymarket valuation breakdown.

One thing to clear up fast. The contract is called POLYMARKETUSDT. It is not the $POLY token. That token doesn’t exist yet. Polymarket has confirmed a token and an airdrop, but there’s no launch date. Crypto Twitter will call both of them “POLY” this week, so expect confusion.

What Bybit Just Listed

Bybit has been building out pre-IPO TradFi perps for months. SpaceX got one before its IPO. OpenAI and Anthropic followed in July. Polymarket is the first prediction market company on the list.

Here are the contract specs:

  • Max leverage: 10x
  • Settlement: USDT
  • Estimated share count: 1 billion
  • Tick size: 0.01
  • Funding: fixed at 0.005% every 4 hours during the pre-IPO period
  • Trading hours: 24/7

The share count makes the price easy to read. Bybit prices the contract as estimated share price times estimated shares. With 1 billion shares assumed, the price maps straight to valuation. A price of $21 means the market values Polymarket at roughly $21 billion, the same as its last private round.

Trading opened with a call auction at 9:00 UTC. Orders could be withdrawn for the first 20 minutes. Matching ran at the 25-minute mark, and continuous trading started 30 minutes in.

A few mechanics matter before you touch it:

  • No ownership. You’re trading an estimated valuation, not shares.
  • Rebase. Once Polymarket files an S-1, Bybit may resize the contract so one contract equals one real share. Your position value should stay about the same.
  • IPO conversion. After an IPO, the contract turns into a standard TradFi perp automatically.
  • Cancellation risk. If the IPO gets canceled or restructured, Bybit may delist the contract or settle it at a price of its choosing.

Bybit isn’t alone here. MEXC listed its own POLYMARKETUSDT pre-IPO perp on September 21 with up to 20x leverage. Liquidity matters most in the first days, though, and Bybit’s derivatives book is usually deeper.

How to Trade the Polymarket Pre-IPO Perp on Bybit

The whole process takes about ten minutes if your account is already verified.

  1. Open and verify an account. Sign up through our Bybit link and complete identity verification. New to the exchange? Our full Bybit review covers fees, KYC and regional access.
  2. Fund your Unified Trading Account with USDT. The contract is USDT-margined only.
  3. Search POLYMARKETUSDT in the derivatives section. It sits with the TradFi pre-IPO contracts, not the crypto perps.
  4. Accept the pre-IPO terms. Bybit asks you to sign a risk agreement before your first trade.
  5. Pick margin mode and leverage. Isolated margin keeps a bad trade from touching the rest of your account. The contract caps at 10x, and you don’t need anywhere near that.
  6. Place the order and set a stop. Limit orders beat market orders on a young book. The product may not be available in every region, so check your account if the contract doesn’t show up.

Subaccount tip: I trade from subaccounts, and this tripped me up. You can’t accept the pre-IPO terms from a subaccount. Sign them from your main account first. After that, the subaccount can trade the contract normally.

My $5K Long

I longed $5,000 this morning, shortly after the contract went live. The trade is green.

I kept the size small on purpose. New contract, thin order book, and a price that lines up almost one-to-one with a private valuation nobody can verify. That’s a lot of unknowns for one trade.

The bull case is easy to see. Polymarket more than doubled its valuation in under a year. The company told CNBC in June that annualized revenue was well above $1 billion. Kalshi, its main rival, reportedly wants $40 billion in its next round. Polymarket also just launched its own perps product, pushing it further into exchange territory. This comes as Kalshi faces scrutiny over wash-trading allegations.

I’ve farmed Polymarket hard this year, including a six-figure volume run during the Polymarket World Cup. Getting to trade the company itself feels like a new chapter of the same story.

The Farmer Play: Hedging a Future POLY Airdrop

This is the angle I find most interesting for our readers.

Plenty of farmers have spent 2026 stacking volume for the Polymarket airdrop. That future allocation is a bet on Polymarket’s hype. If sentiment collapses, your airdrop likely shrinks with it. Until today, there was no way to protect against that.

Now you can short the perp. If Polymarket’s valuation falls, the short pays you while your expected airdrop loses value. A rising valuation hurts the short, yet your airdrop is probably worth more. The idea is similar to the setups in our delta-neutral farming guide, just applied to an allocation you haven’t received yet.

Be honest with yourself about the gaps, though:

  • Equity isn’t the token. POLY could dump at launch while the company’s valuation holds up.
  • Timing can split. The token might launch before any IPO, or years after.
  • Funding is fixed, for now. During the pre-IPO period, funding sits at a flat 0.005% every 4 hours. That works out to about 0.03% a day, so a long-term hedge is cheap and predictable. The rate reverts to Bybit’s normal mechanism after the IPO transition.
  • Squeezes happen. A hot funding headline can rip a thin pre-IPO book higher fast.

Hedge a fraction of what you expect the airdrop to be worth. Keep leverage low. A hedge that gets liquidated protects nothing.

The Degen Play: Top-Blasting a $21B Valuation on Leverage

For the degens and gamblers among us, this is simply a new casino table. You can now long a prediction market company at or above its last private mark, with up to 10x leverage.

Buying at a record valuation feels bad on paper. Momentum doesn’t care about paper. Polymarket went from $9 billion to $21 billion in eleven months. If the next round or an IPO filing lands higher, early longs get paid.

The flip side is brutal. There’s no S-1, no audited financials and no confirmed IPO date. Every rumor about regulation or fundraising moves the price, and a single bad headline can wipe out a leveraged long. Our Polymarket vs Kalshi comparison is worth a read before you pick a side, since Kalshi’s numbers drive a lot of the sentiment here.

Risks Nobody Puts in the Announcement

Pre-IPO perps carry every normal perp risk plus a few extras.

Liquidity in the first days is thin, so spreads widen and slippage bites. The valuation also rests on an estimated share count until an S-1 appears. A rebase shouldn’t change your position value, but it will change your contract count. The bigger tail risk sits in the fine print. If the IPO never happens, Bybit can delist the contract or settle it at a price it decides.

If leverage, funding or liquidation prices still feel fuzzy, start with our trading fundamentals series before opening anything here.

Final Words

Polymarket stock still isn’t for sale. The next best thing went live on Bybit this morning, and it’s already moving. I’m long $5,000 and happy with the start.

Farmers finally have a hedge for the airdrop they’ve been grinding toward. Degens have a fresh valuation to punt on. Both groups should size small, because this book is new and the valuation behind it is still an estimate. We’ll keep covering Polymarket as the valuation, the token and a possible IPO develop.

FAQ

Can I buy Polymarket stock?
No. Polymarket is a private company, and its shares aren’t listed on any exchange. The closest option is a pre-IPO perpetual contract that tracks its estimated valuation without giving you ownership.

Is POLYMARKETUSDT the $POLY token?
No. POLYMARKETUSDT tracks the company’s valuation. The POLY token hasn’t launched yet, and Polymarket hasn’t announced a date.

Where can I trade Polymarket pre-IPO?
Bybit listed POLYMARKETUSDT on September 23, 2026. MEXC listed its version two days earlier. Our MEXC review covers that exchange in detail.

What leverage can I use on POLYMARKETUSDT?
Bybit caps the contract at 10x. MEXC’s version allows up to 20x.

Can I hedge the Polymarket airdrop by shorting the perp?
Partly. A short gains if Polymarket’s valuation drops, which usually hurts airdrop value too. The hedge is imperfect, since the token and the company’s equity can move differently.

Why can’t I trade POLYMARKETUSDT on my Bybit subaccount?
The pre-IPO terms must be accepted from your main account first. Once signed there, subaccounts can trade the contract.

What happens to the contract if Polymarket goes public?
After an IPO, Bybit converts the contract into a standard TradFi perpetual automatically. A canceled or restructured IPO could lead to a delisting or a settlement at a price Bybit sets.
