Wallets that support Zcash fall into two camps. Why Your Usual Wallet Won’t Work

Zodl (formerly Zashi)
Zodl is the flagship. The team that built the Zcash protocol itself develops it, and in early 2026 they left Electric Coin Company, formed the independent Zcash Open Development Lab, and rebranded the Zashi app to Zodl. Nothing changed for users beyond the name. The wallet defaults to shielded transactions, routes traffic through Tor to hide your IP, and includes built-in swaps. Its shielded addresses receive NFT drops too, which made it the default choice during the zkSNARKs auction. It runs on iOS and Android, and it’s the one we point beginners to.
YWallet
YWallet is the power-user option. It supports shielded transactions and unified addresses on both mobile and desktop, syncs fast, and exposes more advanced controls than Zodl. Any NFT that settles to a shielded address can land here as well. Less pretty, more capable.
Zingo
Zingo is a newer community wallet with full shielded support across mobile and desktop, NFT-capable addresses included. A solid alternative if you want something outside the main two.
Brave Wallet
The sleeper pick. Brave’s built-in browser wallet added shielded Zcash in 2025, complete with unified addresses and the modern Orchard pool. If you already use Brave, you have a shielded ZEC wallet installed right now, one that can technically receive NFT drops too. Desktop only for the shielded features, with mobile still pending.
Hardware Wallets: The Cold Storage Question
For years the answer here was simple and disappointing: hardware wallets held transparent ZEC only. That finally changed this summer.
Ledger supports transparent ZEC natively through Ledger Live, the same way it handles Bitcoin. New in August 2026 is a separate Zcash Shielded app, built by Zondax with the Zcash community, which lets the device sign shielded transactions for the first time. Two catches. It only runs on the Nano S Plus, Stax, and Flex, not the Nano X. And it needs a companion wallet such as Zkool or YWallet to build the transactions while your keys stay on the device. That companion setup gives you a shielded address, so hardware-secured NFT custody is now possible in theory, though nobody should call it beginner-friendly yet.
Trezor still supports transparent addresses only, which rules out both shielded payments and NFTs. Support for shielded transactions is in development, and the team has said publicly they’re working on Orchard integration, but nothing has shipped. Until it does, ZEC on a Trezor behaves exactly like Bitcoin: safe, offline, and fully visible on-chain.

Multi-Coin Wallets: Transparent ZEC Only
A handful of the big multi-chain apps list ZEC, and they all share the same limitation: transparent addresses only. Your coins sit in self-custody, which beats the exchange, but every transaction stays public.
Trust Wallet is the main one. It supports ZEC on iOS, Android, and its browser extension, with in-app buying and swaps. Exodus and Guarda fall into the same bucket. Fine for holding, useless for privacy, and since Zcash NFTs settle to shielded addresses, none of these can receive one.
Think of these as a middle step. Better than leaving coins on Bybit, not the destination if you bought ZEC for the shielded pools.

Two things to understand before you ape in. First, no Zcash wallet displays these NFTs the way MetaMask or Phantom render a JPEG collection. Your wallet holds the ownership, while viewing and trading happen on the marketplace, currently Zilkroad. Second, transparent-only wallets are out. A Trust Wallet or Ledger Live address can’t receive a drop that settles shielded, so set up a shielded wallet before bidding on anything.

Which Zcash Wallet Should You Pick?
Match the wallet to what you’re doing. Buying a starter position and want privacy without homework? Zodl on your phone. Holding a serious bag long term? Ledger with the Shielded app, or transparent cold storage on either brand while Trezor catches up. Chasing the NFT meta? Anything shielded, with Zodl again the easy pick. Already deep in the Brave ecosystem? The built-in wallet covers you on desktop. Just want ZEC sitting next to your other 40 coins? Trust Wallet works, privacy not included.
