Cryptohopper and AirdropAlert share a birth year. Two Dutch brothers, Ruud and Pim Feltkamp, launched the bot platform in 2017. That same year, I started AirdropAlert as a single page during a world trip. As a Dutchman myself, I’ve watched their project grow up alongside mine.
Nine years later, Cryptohopper remains one of the best-known names in automated crypto trading. The real question is whether it still earns its monthly fee. That got harder to answer in June 2026, when the free plan disappeared.
Is Cryptohopper worth it? Cryptohopper is a legit cloud trading bot that connects to your exchange through API keys. Plans start at $24.16 a month on annual billing, and a 3-day trial lets you test it first. It suits traders who want to design, backtest and tweak strategies, not beginners hunting a free shortcut.
This Cryptohopper review covers features, pricing, safety and how it stacks up against exchange-native bots.
What Is Cryptohopper?
Cryptohopper is a cloud-based trading bot platform, not an exchange. It never holds your coins. Instead, it plugs into your existing exchange account and trades the balance there.
Everything runs on Cryptohopper’s servers, so bots keep working while your computer sleeps. A web dashboard and mobile app let you monitor positions from anywhere. The platform supports more than 16 exchanges, including big names like Binance and Kraken.
As a company, Cryptohopper isn’t a regulated entity, and its own disclaimers say so. That matters less than it sounds, because your funds stay on the exchange. Still, it means no investor protection if a strategy goes wrong.
How Cryptohopper Works
Setup revolves around API keys. You create a key on your exchange and paste it into Cryptohopper. From then on, the bot can place and manage trades for you.
Each bot, called a “hopper,” follows a strategy you pick or build. Strategies combine technical indicators like RSI, MACD or Bollinger Bands into buy and sell signals. The hopper checks the market at a set interval and acts when conditions match.
Exits run on take-profit targets, stop-losses and trailing stops. DCA settings let the bot average into losing positions, which helps in dips and hurts in crashes. You can tune every setting, and that flexibility is the whole point.
Cryptohopper Features
Strategy Designer and Backtesting
The Strategy Designer lets you combine indicators into custom rules without code. Backtesting then runs those rules against historical data. Our trading fundamentals series helps if indicators like RSI still feel foreign.
A good backtest proves little on its own. Strategies tuned too tightly to past data often fall apart live. Treat a backtest as a filter, not a promise.
Paper Trading
Paper trading runs your hopper with fake money on live prices. It’s the cheapest way to find flaws before real funds are on the line.
Strategy Marketplace
The marketplace sells ready-made strategies, templates and signals from other users. Sellers set their own prices, charged on top of your subscription. Quality varies wildly, since anyone can list a strategy. Backtest anything before you buy it.
Copy Bot
The Copy Bot mirrors another trader’s hopper on your account. It’s a separate add-on, priced from $9.99 to $99.99 a month depending on the trader.
AI, Market Making and Arbitrage
The Hero plan unlocks AI-driven strategies plus market-making and arbitrage bots. These tools target advanced users with bigger balances. Most traders never need them.
Cryptohopper Pricing
Cryptohopper scrapped its free Pioneer plan on June 18, 2026. Every bot now needs a paid subscription, and new accounts get a 3-day Explorer trial instead.
Current plans, before VAT:
- Explorer: $29 a month, or $24.16 a month billed yearly
- Adventurer: $69 a month, or $57.50 billed yearly
- Hero: $129 a month, or $107.50 billed yearly
Explorer caps you at 15 coins, 80 open positions per exchange and a 10-minute strategy check. Adventurer and Hero raise those limits and check the market more often. Annual billing always works out cheaper.
Remember the full cost stack. Your exchange still charges its own trading fees. Marketplace strategies and Copy Bot subscriptions add more on top. A small account can lose more to fees than it earns from the bot.
Is Cryptohopper Safe?
Cryptohopper can’t withdraw your funds. API keys only need trading rights, so a breach at Cryptohopper alone can’t pull money off your exchange. Saved keys sit encrypted, and the platform runs on AWS behind Cloudflare protection.
It did suffer a data breach in the past. Attackers used SQL injection to grab names, usernames, emails and encrypted passwords. Cryptohopper cut the attack off quickly and says no API keys were taken. Even so, it told every user to reset passwords and keys.
Your own setup matters most:
- Never enable withdrawal rights on an API key
- Whitelist Cryptohopper’s IP addresses on the key
- Turn on 2FA for both Cryptohopper and your exchange
- Treat any email asking for your keys as phishing
How to Start With Cryptohopper
- Sign up. Create your Cryptohopper account through our link. The 3-day Explorer trial starts right away.
- Enable 2FA. Do this before connecting anything.
- Create an API key on your exchange. Give it trading rights only, keep withdrawals off, and whitelist Cryptohopper’s IPs.
- Connect the key. Paste it into Cryptohopper and pick a base currency, such as USDT.
- Start in paper mode. Choose a template or build a strategy, then run it on simulated funds.
- Go live small. Once results hold up, switch to a real balance you can afford to lose. Pick a plan before the trial ends to keep the hopper running.

Cryptohopper vs Pionex
Both platforms automate trading, but they take opposite routes. Pionex builds free bots straight into its own exchange. Cryptohopper charges a subscription and trades on the exchange you already use.
That trade-off shapes who each one suits. Pionex wins on cost and simplicity, with no API keys to manage. Cryptohopper wins on control, with custom indicators, backtesting and a strategy marketplace. Your coins also stay on a major exchange instead of a smaller bot-focused one.
Beginners should probably start with Pionex. Tinkerers who outgrow preset grids tend to land on Cryptohopper.
Who Should Use Cryptohopper?
Cryptohopper fits traders who enjoy building and testing strategies. Anyone already trading on a big exchange can automate there without moving funds. Signal followers and marketplace shoppers get a big menu to choose from.
Skip it if you want something free or hands-off from day one. Small accounts struggle too, since a fixed monthly fee eats a bigger share of returns.
No setting turns a bot into a money printer. Cryptohopper executes your rules faster and without emotion. Whether those rules make money is still on you.
Keep This Content Free
Mapping every plan limit and hidden fee in this review took real digging. If Bybit or OKX is your exchange, open your account through our Bybit or OKX affiliate links. It costs you nothing and keeps our bot coverage free.
Final Words
Cryptohopper has survived nine years in a market that kills most bot projects. The strategy tools run genuinely deep, and your funds never leave your exchange. Losing the free plan stings, though, and costs stack up fast for small accounts.
Use the 3-day trial well. Connect a key, run a strategy on paper and see whether the tools click. Should they click, Cryptohopper earns its fee. If not, a free built-in bot might serve you better.
