A Ghibli meme coin craze exploded on X after Elon Musk, Sam Altman, and Ripple execs jumped on a viral trend sparked by ChatGPT’s new image-generation tool.
A tsunami of Ghibli-style images hit social media from ChatGPT users in the art style of Studio Ghibli, which is known for its anime films “Spirited Away” and “My Neighbor Totoro.”
The phenomenon erupted after after Sam Altman’s OpenAI added image generation capabilities to its ChatGPT-4o model.
Meme coin developers pounced on the trend to deploy an army of Ghibli-related tokens. One such token, Ghiblification (GHIBLI), has soared to a market cap of around $21 million since its launch less than 24 hours ago, according to DexScreener data.
The meme coin trades at $0.02124 as of 2:12 a.m. EST after soaring more than 35,172% gain.
Other developers tried to cash in in on the trend, leading to the launch of at least 20 other Ghibli-related meme coins in the last 24 hours.
Musk, Altman And Ripple Execs Share Ghibli-Style Images Online
Tech billionaire Musk, OpenAI CEO Altman as well as Ripple executives Brad Garlinghouse and David Schwartz all also hopped on the Ghibli trend, and posted portraits of themselves generated by the new ChatGPT model.

Musk, with his more than 219 million followers on X, included a meme coin element in his post. He referenced a scene from the animation “The Lion King,” which included his face on a character holding a Shiba Inu dog.

Musk has caused numerous meme coin pumps in the past due to his posts. But Shiba Inu (SHIB) and Dogecoin (DOGE) did not react to his latest X post.
CoinMarketCap data shows that SHIB dropped over 4%, while DOGE only rose over 1% in the last 24 hours.
