Anthropic has officially announced the integration of its AI-powered coding assistant, Claude Sonnet 4, with Xcode 26, Apple’s integrated development environment (IDE). This integration aims to enhance the app development process for Apple’s platforms by leveraging advanced coding intelligence features, according to Anthropic.
Using Claude in Xcode
Developers who connect their Claude account with Xcode can now utilize a suite of coding intelligence features. Claude Sonnet 4 offers a natural language coding assistant that gathers context from ongoing projects, enabling developers to debug, refactor, and build features more efficiently. Additional tools available include automatic documentation generation, code section explanations, SwiftUI previews, and inline code changes directly in the editor.
The integration allows developers to streamline their workflow by using Claude’s capabilities within Xcode, thus accelerating the app development process for Apple devices. Subscription usage limits for Claude are shared across platforms, with a portion specifically allocated for Xcode use.
Getting Started with Claude in Xcode
To begin using Claude in Xcode, developers need to download Xcode 26 from the Mac App Store. After installation, users can access the Intelligence settings in Xcode preferences and log in with their Claude account. The integration is compatible with all plans that include Claude Code—Pro and Max, as well as premium seats for Team and Enterprise plans.
