Andrew Tate Profits $41K From Shorting Kanye West’s YZY Token

Controversial influencer Andrew Tate is sitting on an unrealized profit of $41K from a leveraged short on YZY MONEY (YZY), a meme coin linked to rapper Kanye West, while 13 other wallets each pocketed over $1 million from the token.

The meme coin went viral after appearing on West’s official X account, triggering a 1,400% surge to $3 and a market cap of $3 billion. 

High-profile traders, including BitMEX co-founder Arthur Hayes and leveraged trader James Wynn, also bought in, drawn by the hype surrounding the celebrity-backed token.

But its surge was short-lived. Fears of a rugpull appeared justified when YZY’s price crashed hours later, leaving thousands of smaller investors with losses.

CoinMarketCap data shows the token has plummeted more than 44% in the last 24 hours to trade at $0.6571.

Nansen data shows 13 wallets collectively made $24.5 million dumping the token, while only a small fraction of addresses that bought the coin still hold it.

Tate Makes A Leveraged Bet Against YZY

Tate’s YZY trade adds to his history with celebrity meme coins, including his own controversial Daddy Tate (DADDY) token.

According to on-chain data cited by Lookonchain, Tate opened a 3X short position on YZY when its price was at $0.8524. 

The trade was performed on the decentralized perpetual futures platform Hyperliquid. With YZY’s current price, the influencer is sitting on an unrealized profit of $41,575.82, marking a more than 91% gain since he opened the position. The liquidation price for the order is $1.0268, according to HyperDash.

In an X post earlier today, Lookonchain said that Tate has performed 80 trades on Hyperliquid so far with a win rate of only 36.25% and a total loss of $699K.

On June 11 last year, Tate began promoting his own token DADDY token.

That project was clouded in controversy after a Bubblemaps analysis said the crypto’s creator sent approximately 40% of the supply to Tate’s wallet soon after the crypto was launched.

Tate responded to the analysis and said that he would “never sell” what was sent to his wallet. “I will only burn and buy,” he added, before burning around $10K worth of the tokens.

Bubblemaps also flagged 11 wallets that bought about 20% of DADDY’s supply before Tate’s first post, raising liquidity and centralization risks.

Insider Wallets Dump YZY For Massive Profits

Similar trading activity around that seen with DADDY has been observed with YZY, causing the crypto’s price to crash. According to Nansen, 13 wallets achieved a combined profit of $24.5 million as they dumped the meme coin on the market.

A query by Dune Analytics indicates that over 56,000 wallets interacted with the YZY token, while Nansen shows that there are still 25,369 wallets holding more than $1 worth of the crypto.

That data also shows that only 9 of the 99 addresses that bought the token still hold YZY.

Of the thousands of wallets that interacted with the token, two of them saw losses of more than $1 million. The biggest loser, the Nansen data shows, lost $1.8 million. The second biggest loss was around $1.2 million. 

First YZY Buyer Made Millions On TRUMP: Bubblemaps

In an Aug. 21 X thread, Bubblemaps said it identified the first buyer of YZY, linking the identity to a trader named “Naseem,” who was able to turn a $1.09 million Official Trump (TRUMP) investment into $100 million.

According to Bubblemaps, all transactions that took place between the token’s launch day on Aug. 17 and Aug. 21 were performed by the meme coin’s team. The first real buy was performed on Aug. 21, when wallet “AwY1V” purchased $250K worth of YZY.

Bubblemaps says that the wallet in that purchase has links to wallets previously used by Naseem, which also included addresses that sniped both LIBRA and TRUMP. Based on these findings, they said they’re “confident that AwY1V is Naseem.”

Naseem has already sold $800K worth of YZY and still holds $600K, Bubblemaps added.
