Broccoli Meme Coin Frenzy Erupts After CZ Reveals Dog’s Name

A meme coin frenzy has erupted around “Broccoli” meme coins after former Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao, aka CZ, revealed his dog’s name in a post on X.

Popular meme coin platforms such as Pump.fun and BNB Smart Chain’s Four.Meme have seen an influx of new tokens named after Zhao’s Belgian Malinois canine.

CZ Says He Is Not Launching His Own Meme Coin

While CZ appeared to be contemplating launching his own meme coin, he said in the Feb. 13 X post that he decided not to proceed. “I am NOT issuing a meme coin myself,” he said. 

He added that it is up to the community whether they want to launch a token inspired by Broccoli or not.

Broccoli’s Story

Developers pounced on the opportunity to launch a token named after the former Binance executive’s dog. Around 480 Broccoli-themed meme coins were launched on the Solana meme coin launchpad Pump.fun, while developers deployed at least 300 similar coins on Four.Meme.

PancakeSwap Trading Volume Surges During Broccoli Meme Coin Frenzy

The Binance Smart Chain-based decentralized exchange PancakeSwap recorded over $3 billion in trading volume over the last 24 hours. This allowed the exchange to outperform its peers Uniswap, Raydium, Meteora and Orca in terms of 24-hour trading activity.

Whales also swooped in to try to capitalize on the hype around Broccoli meme coins. 

According to the on-chain analytics platform Lookonchain, one whale spent a total of 7,431 BNB, valued at $5 million at the time, to purchase 39.54 million $Broccolli at $0.1264. This makes the whale the largest holder of the meme coin.

This whale made a big bet on $Broccoli(0x6d5…714).

That purchase was after the same whale executed buys for two other meme coins named after CZ’s dog. The one position had an unrealized gain of $530.5K, while the other stood at an unrealized loss of $302.4K at the time Lookonchain posted.
