So yes, when Yuga Labs announced that The Nexus was finally going live as the first real “always-on” space in Otherside, we were more than ready.
And after exploring it… the wait was worth it.
A New Playground for Web3 Gaming
Three and a half years after the original mint, and months after the Swamp opened 24/7 for the first time, the metaverse finally shifted into something deeper. The community rushed into the Koda homeworld as the Nexus went live, giving players the first real taste of an on-chain world that feels alive, persistent, and built for exploration.
Before anything else, players received a nostalgic throwback: the classic 2022 teaser with Curtis, Blue, and those early Web3-era vibes that started it all.
But it didn’t stay nostalgic for long.
The arrival sequence dropped everyone into the remnants of the Swamp. A storm surged between the forces of Soma and Chaos, pulling everything into a huge vortex — even the BAYC clubhouse itself, in a moment straight out of a Web3 version of Wizard of Oz.
With Curtis and Blue guiding the way, the community helped stabilize the chaos and landed in the Nexus, marking the true beginning of this next chapter. Curtis’ final words before sending players off said it all:
“Go. Explore. Otherside’s yours now.”
It wasn’t just part of the story — it felt like a symbolic handover of the world.
First Steps Into the Nexus
Once players spawned in, it became clear that this wasn’t just a slightly updated Swamp map. The scale, detail, and energy were on a different level.
A long bridge leads toward a towering Koda Temple guarded by massive stone Kodas. On both sides, portals hint at future regions and adventures. The entire map stretches beneath your feet like a living constellation — the first time we’ve really seen Otherside from above.
And unlike previous demos, there’s actually stuff to do:
- Daily tasks
- XP progression
- Mini-games
- Obstacle challenges
- Collectible badges
- Social spots
- Hidden corners and lore breadcrumbs
Most players spent hours just running around, climbing structures, and messing with the new systems. The vibe feels like a social gaming hub mixed with a growing MMORPG — and for the first time, it’s always live.
Even Garga called on everyone to jump in:
“If you’ve never visited Otherside, give it a try today. You don’t need an NFT to play.”
A major shift: open access for anyone, not just BAYC or Koda holders.
Community Reactions: Shock, Hype, and a Good Prank
One of the funniest moments of the launch came from Adam Weitsman, the largest landholder in Otherside, who initially tweeted that he felt “deceived” by Yuga.
The community panicked for a second… until he revealed the twist:
He wasn’t upset.
He was blown away.
What he meant was: Yuga never told him Nexus would be this good.
His post ended up being a massive compliment to the developers, especially Figge and the world-building team.
