Eli Roth launches The Horror Section, inviting fans to invest in horror films through blockchain technology, reshaping the film industry by integrating Web3 and offering equity to horror enthusiasts.

Eli Roth, the acclaimed horror film director, is embarking on a new venture with The Horror Section, a movie studio that invites horror film enthusiasts to invest directly in its projects. This innovative approach not only allows fans to enjoy the films but also gives them an opportunity to own a stake in the studio itself. Co-founded by Roth alongside Jon Schnaars and Media Capital Technologies, the studio is utilizing blockchain technology to modernize the way films are funded and distributed, according to Sui Foundation.

Empowering Fans Through Blockchain

Launched in March 2025, The Horror Section has already raised over $5.5 million with participation from more than 2,500 investors. Through a partnership with the investment platform Republic, fans can invest in the company with increments as low as $100. This democratized investment model allows horror enthusiasts from all walks of life to become stakeholders, with the option to use stablecoins for accredited investors.

The incorporation of Sui’s blockchain technology has been pivotal in this initiative. It allows fans to hold digital shares as tokenized real-world assets, while Republic manages equity and returns. This approach opens the door for a global audience to participate, even if they lack knowledge of Web3 technologies.

Innovative Film Production and Distribution

Roth and Schnaars aim to produce and distribute original films, as well as acquire films from niche horror genres. Their approach involves creating films without Motion Picture Association ratings, allowing for uncut and uncensored productions. Despite the challenges this might pose for theatrical releases, the company is committed to bringing its films to cinemas.

The Horror Section’s first film acquisition, Jimmy and Stiggs, is set to release on August 15. The studio is also preparing for its first original release, Ice Cream Man, penned and directed by Roth himself.

Expanding Beyond Films

Beyond just film production, The Horror Section is building a comprehensive library of intellectual property, aiming to expand into various media forms, including stage adaptations, video games, and merchandise. This strategy not only enhances fan engagement but also diversifies revenue streams.

Roth and Schnaars are leveraging technologies like decentralized storage and secret management to secure and enhance the fan experience. They are committed to creating a platform that not only serves horror fans but also evolves with technological advancements in the entertainment industry.
